The Wild Game and BBQ Cookoff is a two-day, family-friendly event held at Moody Gardens in Galveston, Texas. Proceeds from the event benefit Yaga’s Children’s Fund, which raises money for charities serving the children of Galveston County.

The festivities kick off on Friday with a cookoff featuring competitors in seven categories: Fajitas, Seafood, Chicken, Chef’s Choice, Pork Ribs, Brisket, and Wild Game. The event is sanctioned by the International Barbecue Cookers Association (IBCA), with Chicken, Pork Ribs, and Brisket eligible for IBCA points that count toward the State Championship. In addition to the cookoff competitions for Fajitas and Seafood, the day concludes with the Friday Night Fundraiser at Moody Gardens, where sponsors are honored and thanked for their support.

Saturday is the main attraction, with multiple events running concurrently alongside the cookoff. All spectator events are free! The day begins with a 5K Fun Run through the grounds of Moody Gardens, open to participants of all ages. Families can enjoy a dedicated children’s area featuring activities such as obstacle courses and a petting zoo. Live entertainment, including performances by local bands and school groups, fills the day, while food and drinks are available for purchase throughout the event.

 

Given its location at Moody Gardens, attendees also have quick access to paid attractions like the Rainforest Pyramid and the Aquarium. Additionally, a Silent Auction offers items such as vacation weekends, themed prize baskets, fine dining experiences, and other local attractions. The evening wraps up with an Awards Ceremony, where the best cooks of the event are recognized.
